PROTESTERS FALLS AFTER FLOOD AFTER FIRE

I returned to visit and paint the falls often. Each time there were little signs of recovery. They came first in the water. As all of the charcoal and ashes finally rinsed out of the landscape, Protesters Falls became its usual pristine clear sparkling ribbon of water I always remembered it as. While I was composing this work, I lifted my eye from my board to trace the line of the escarpment with my eyes. As I did so a shaft of light caught in the water droplets and began to project the colours of the rainbow into the air. The colours lit up the blackened background of the escarpment and beckoned towards new life.
